Mid-afternoon Snack in Munich

On April 4, 2010 I got this delicious Greek Yogurt from Glockenspiel Café on Marienplatz in Munich, Germany. My German teacher, who was with me at the time, suggested this as an option.

As it was delivered to the table, I was slightly shocked at it’s magnitude. First, I was expecting a bowl, not a sundae glass. Then there is the fact that a good inch of honey was resting on top of the nuts and yogurt. Nevertheless, it looked absolutely delicious!

The nuts and honey on top were aesthetically pleasing. (But, what on earth is that orange thing? To this day I have not figured it out…) I never had Greek Yogurt before this moment in time so I was a little wary of the entire combination. I remember saying, “Yogurt and honey? Does that really work?” Only after a few spoonfuls did I decide that the snack was great! I’d definitely get it again if I hadn’t just recently found out that I’m slightly lactose intolerant…

But, there is no need to concern yourself with that tidbit of information.

If I ever find myself back in Munich, I’ll definitely be going to this café again. Maybe I’ll even risk illness to have it once more!

Frische Quark Bällchen

These were honestly one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten in my entire life. Fresh Cream Cheese Balls. I bought two orders… and got an ice cream too. Hey, I deserved it! This was after I nearly died climbing up the mountain to get to Schlosss Neuschwanstein.

Neuschwanstein Schloss

I’d been obsessing over this castle since middle school, when I drew it for one of my art projects in… seventh(?) grade. When I found out I’d actually be touring it, I was incredibly excited. It’s a beautiful castle. I’ll never forget the King’s bedroom. His bed with ornate wood carvings, the swans situated around the room, the rich curtain fabrics… Absolutely gorgeous. I’d go back, just to see the bedroom and the mosaic tiles of the throne room.

We weren’t allowed to take photos on the tour, but believe you me, if you ever see the buildings in this castle, you won’t ever forget them.

Sweet Treats

These looked absolutely mouth-watering. In Munich, at a little shop in Marienplatz, I nearly blew my budget on treats such as these. I stopped myself though… only got an ice cream cone! I have vowed that when I get back to Germany, I must visit this place again.

Nymphenburg Park

My tour group didn’t have time to explore the park and gardens at Nymphenburg Palace but if I ever get the chance to go back I’ll definitely walk through the place. The grand parterre, pictured above, is exactly that. Grand.

Hillside Homes

This was the view outside my friend Eric’s hotel room while we stayed in Switzerland. Separating what you see here in the photo and our hotel is the Sarnensee, or Lake Sarnen. I had a cute view myself, of the houses and the Alps behind us.

I had the best vegetable soup at this hotel and a delicious fruit drink. One night our German teacher, Frau P, bought beer for Maureen, Amber, and I. We had a fun time talking outside the hotel for a few minutes before dinner was served. I think I’ll stay at this hotel again if I go back.

What a gorgeous statue. I would have liked the day more if it wasn’t so gloomy. It didn’t stop me from getting pictures!

Arbeit Macht Frei

This is the entrance to Dachau Concentration Camp in Germany. My tour group went to this historic place on Easter morning, which I found rather depressing at the time and ultimately still do. Arbeit Macht Frei can be translated a few different ways in Germany but I was always told it was “Work Sets You Free” and this was the Nazi Regime’s slogan which was put on the gates at most Concentration Camps.

If you ever get a chance to visit of Concentration Camp, take the opportunity to. It is something that you’ll never forget. The energy there is unbelievable.

Trees in Hofgarten Innsbruck

Wandering around the Hofgarten in Innsbruck, Austria I came across these incredible trees. The way that they were growing, twisting around, made it seem like with every movement you made, they moved as well. It was quite eerie, but beautiful.
